Tree Rd, Camps Bay

This project on Three Road, Camps Bay, was delivered in collaboration with Soda Custom Homes, with Uvuyo Group responsible for the structural shell (“canvas”) and Soda completing the final build. The site presented significant challenges due to its steep and constrained terrain, requiring a practical and adaptable construction approach.

To address the site conditions, Uvuyo Group implemented labour-driven solutions that allowed for flexibility on difficult terrain while also creating additional employment opportunities. A key component of the construction strategy was the use of the Speedfloor suspended concrete flooring system.

The system’s non-propping capability enabled concurrent slab casting, allowing new floor levels to be installed and cast above recently completed slabs without transferring load to the structure below. This made it possible to run multiple work fronts simultaneously across different sections of the building, significantly improving programme efficiency.

In addition, the simplicity of the Speedfloor system reduced the need for complex and heavy formwork, streamlining material handling and simplifying site logistics in a challenging environment. Its lightweight design also minimised structural loads on the foundations — a critical advantage for multi-storey construction on steep terrain.

The project was delivered within programme despite challenging site conditions, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining practical site strategies with innovative construction systems. The result is a well-executed structural framework that enabled efficient progression into the final build phase.
